On Friday 18th of May, our junior club coordinators, Cathryn Knipe and Diane Kirgan, attended the Ulster Hockey Annual Awards Dinner. They were joined by Harry McCloy and his daughter, Olivia McCloy. Olivia plays for the Ballymoney Ladies 2nd XI Team, has been with the hockey club since she was playing Under 11. Olivia has a true passion for hockey and her hard work and dedication was recognised when she received the Ana Rosa Young Volunteer of the Year Award. Olivia was shortlisted against 3 other very deserving nominees! She is a true definition of a club member. Olivia is a role model for all players, young and old, within Ballymoney Ladies Hockey Club. At the age of 15, she is one of the youngest Volunteers at the Club, and despite having school work and 2ndXI training commitments, amongst other things, she always ensures she is available to coach on Tuesday evenings. Her coaching ability and group management is beyond her years. Olivia’s rapport with the children is an invaluable attribute to have as a coach. We look forward to her completing the Young Leaders Award next season and watching her progress along the coaching pathway, and eventually will make a great Junior Coordinator!! Her passion and dedication to hockey in all its forms be it playing, coaching, umpiring or spectating are second to none. For Olivia, at such a young age, receiving this award is a great way of showing her and others, how much we value volunteers support and contribution to the sport and our club.
